Bearskin Lodge in Gatlinburg, TN – Trip Before Baby

Last week, we decided to take a quick trip to the Smoky Mountains for our baby moon (last trip just us before the baby).  I was instructed to find the place, so I thought I’d like to stay at a place I hadn’t stayed before in Gatlinburg.  Which led me to the Bearskin Lodge on the River.  The picture below is one I got from the internet, but it looks just like this.

It’s located at the end of the strip, on River Road, right before you head out of Gatlinburg to go into the National Park.  Since we had never stayed on this end, I wasn’t real sure what all was down this way, so I thought this trip would be a good time to find out.

Some of these photos were taken with my iPhone, so not real good quality.  Also, why does the lighting always suck in a hotel room?!

We stayed in the Executive King Stream View room which featured a King bed, private balcony overlooking a mountain stream (the river), gas fireplace, and a 2 person in-room whirlpool.

I forgot to take any pictures of the bathroom area.  It was nice.  The shower and toilet were in a room by their self, which was pretty small.  The sink was in a larger area with a large mirror and bright lighting.  Oh, and a blow dryer.  I didn’t see that mentioned on their website.

Overall, we had a really great trip!  Would I pick the Bearskin Lodge to stay in again?  Eh, maybe.  Let me just give you a pros and cons list.  🙂

Bad news first, right?
Cons:
*The balcony was definitely not very private.  You could see a hotel right behind ours with their balconies facing ours and a huge parking lot.
*The water pressure in the shower was horrible!  This was probably my biggest turn off.  I love a good, strong shower stream!
*This hotel is at the very end of the strip, so I think it would be great if you were planning to go to Ober Gatlinburg, as that road runs right along side of it.

Pros:
*I loved waking up, opening the door to hear the stream, and turning the gas fireplace on.  I’d love to have that in my own house.
*There were a few restaurants within a close walking distance.  The Peddler (right next door and very expensive), The Park Grill, and Crockett’s Breakfast Camp (my new favorite breakfast joint) just to name a few.
*The bed was pretty comfy.
*Continental breakfast from 7am-10am, although we didn’t make it in time to try it.
*Free cookies and coffee each evening at the main entrance.

Our only pre-parents picture of the trip.

Have you ever stayed at the Bearskin Lodge on the River in Gatlinburg? Where is your favorite place to stay in the Smoky Mountains?

Gaylord Opryland Hotel – Nashville, TN

WARNING:  You will want to travel here!

This past weekend we traveled to music city for a night away from home for some rest & relaxation.  We made our stay at the famous Gaylord Opryland Hotel and yes, it is awesome!  How could it be anything but awesome when you look out your room window and see this?  That’s all indoors!  One of my favorite things about this hotel is you don’t even have to leave.  Hungry?  They have several restaurants.  Ball game on?  They have a sports bar with 100 tv’s.  Exercise?  24 hour fitness room, plus you can walk all over the 9-acre property.  Spa day?  Yup, they have that too.  Shopping?  They are several small shops, but the best shopping is at Opry Mills, which you can walk to or hop a free shuttle.

The scenery around the property is unreal.  Look at this waterfall!  I could have stood for an hour and watched/listened to it.  It was so peaceful.

Look at these gold fish!  They are HUGE!  And of course, we had to make a wish and each throw our own penny in.

Ah, this bed!  The MOST COMFORTABLE bed we have ever slept on.  I can’t wait to spend a weekend here just to lay in the bed a little bit longer.  🙂  The desk area with the mirror was perfect for taking selfies.  And who doesn’t like a flat screen tv?!  You don’t know it by looking, but the right side of that dresser is not real drawers.  It opens up and a small safe and refrigerator are stored in there.   Oh and that view again!

Next up, we have the bathroom.  Have you ever been to one of those hotels that you don’t even want to touch the shower?  Yeah, well not this one.  It is spotless!  And there were two sinks.  One in the bathroom and one right outside the door.  Perfect for me to straighten my hair while Mac is taking a shower.  Gaylord Opryland Hotel - Nashville, TN Bathroom

I wish we had made time to take advantage of the pool and hot tub.  It was such a nice area with a pool side bar.

The Opryland Hotel is home to 7 restaurants.  Stax is the one we ate at.  Ha, cheeseburgers!  Not to mention they were double cheeseburgers!  And good too.  At Stax, you get your food and take it outside the restaurant to eat it.  We sat at a bar area and had a wonderful view of a fountain water show.   We ended up getting frozen yogurt too from Delta Delight just up from Stax.

I had to take a tiiiiiny nap after being here a few hours.  I’d been up since 5:15am because I’d helped with the 5k, so this girl needed some rest.  After my two hour nap :), we got ready and headed to Jack Daniels restaurants to have some drinks and listen to some music.  This girl could sing and she was covering anything from Patty Loveless to Travis Tritt to her own songs.

And here we are posing behind the huge waterfall that is located at the beginning of this post.

Us

There are so many pros to this trip!  I can’t wait to go back because there are a ton more things that I want to do.  Like go to the Grand Ole Opry (free shuttle takes you there), visit the General Jackson Showboat, see the Christmas lights in December, and sleep in that amazing bed again.

The only con I can think of from this trip was the wait time to check in.  Check in time is 3:00pm and we arrived around 3:30.  I got in line to check in and had to wait around 30 minutes.  Next time we will either pay extra to check in early or come a little bit later.

Have you visited the Opryland Hotel? Do you plan to visit in the future?   Take me with you!!!

Livin’ For The Weekends

This past week was one of those weeks where you live only for the weekend!  Both my best co-workers, Kelly and Erica, were off work and I can’t lie, it got tough towards the end of the week.  Luckily, this weekend made up for it!

Friday night, my parents, Carter (nephew), Mac, and myself ate supper at Little Taste of Texas.  Ah, so good!  They have the best cheeseburger ever!  Carter put on a little show for us at the table and I’m pretty sure our waitress thought he was mine and Mac’s kid.  She brought Carter’s plate out and gave it to Mac to cool off before he ate it.  We would totally take him as our kid!

Saturday morning, I was up bright and early (5:15 am) to help two great friends, Kelly and Jessica, with their 2nd annual 5k.  See where I survived the walk last year here.  I skipped out on the walk/run this year, mainly because I’m lazy.  I can’t lie to you. 🙂  They had a really awesome turn out with some great prizes!  I’m already excited for next year … maybe I might be ready by then!

After the 5k, I headed up to the Edmonton square for the Pumpkin Festival where I met up with my mama and Carter.  I’m pretty sure he loved being pushed around in his stroller by his Aunt Owee.  When I left, he seemed to be having a ball.

I left the Pumpkin Festival early because we were heading out to the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN!  More on that this week, but we will definitely be back!

As for Sunday, it has rained ALL day.  But that’s good though because I got tons of laundry done, some house cleaning, and grocery shopping.  Now Mac has us watching the movie World War Z (about zombies) and I’m scared too death.

How was your weekend?
