Do you suffer from little white/red bumps on your upper arms or other areas?
Does it feel like sandpaper when you rub your hands over it?
Does it make you self-conscious to wear sleeveless shirts?
You may be suffering from Keratosis Pilaris. I do.

WebMD gives the definition of Keratosis Pilaris as “a common, harmless skin condition. It causes small, hard bumps that may make your skin feel like sandpaper. The bumps are often light-colored. They usually appear on your upper arms, thighs, and buttocks, sometimes with redness or swelling.”

What causes Keratosis Pilaris?
WebMD states “Keratosis pilaris is caused by a buildup of keratin, the protein that protects skin from infections and other harmful things. The buildup forms a plug that blocks the opening of a hair follicle, but doctors don’t know what triggers the buildup.”

I have been dealing with this for a few years now. The only thing that seemed to make it better was tanning, rather it be in the tanning bed or in the natural sunlight. I wanted a better way and so far, it is helping tremendously!

3 easy steps to help with keratosis pilaris

3 steps to help your Keratosis Pilaris.

  1. Lather the dry area that Keratosis Pilaris is in with Selsun Blue and let it dry.  I let it set for about 5 minutes.
  2. While in the shower, I wash all areas and try not to let the water and soap hit the Selsun Blue area. I basically use it as a soap on this area.  Before you exit the shower, rinse the Selsun Blue off as you rinse the rest of your body.
  3. After you are dried off, apply a moisturizing lotion to the area. You can find my favorite moisturizing lotion here.

Please remember: I am not a doctor. This is simply a routine that was mentioned to me that I tested out and it has really helped. Not cured it completely, but it has made me feel much more comfortable with my skin. It may not work for you, but it wouldn’t hurt to try.

Ahh, vacation is over.  That was fast.

At the very last minute, (I’m talking booked a condo at 5pm, packed, got ready, left the house at 8pm) we (Mac, Cooper, and myself) decided to go to Florida.  Destination: Panama City Beach.

We drove around 5 hours that night.  We stopped at around 5 exits before Birmingham, Alabama to find a hotel for the night, but no such luck!  We ended up driving 25 miles past Birmingham before we found a hotel.  There was some type of ball tournament in the area that had hotels BOOKED.  We finally laid our heads down around 2am in Alabaster, AL.

Next morning, we hopped up outta bed and headed straight for the Waffle House.  We don’t travel without at least one stop at the Waffle House.  Walmart was our next stop and then back on I-65 towards Florida.

We arrived around 2:30pm! WOOHOO!  At our home away from home. Thanks to Joe at Panhandle Getaways for giving us a good deal!

Our 4 nights and 5 days at the beach were pretty awesome!  The morning we were to head home, it was storming, but other than that the weather was perfect.

Cooper loved riding on the golf cart down the streets of PCB!

All of the food was amazing!  We ate at Harpoon Harry’s, Pineapple Willy’s, Another Broken Egg Café, Whataburger, Waffle House…. and lots of ham sandwiches!

Cooper squalled a lot of the way there and back, but nothing we couldn’t handle 😉  Our DVD player died 70 miles before we got to Panama, so that was one of the first purchases on our list.
