My DIY Wedding Decor

DIY wedding decor is the best way to save money on your wedding.  I was bound and determined to make most of my wedding decor myself.    It saved my parents and myself a ton of money.  Not to mention we had our wedding outdoors and used a lot of the scenery as decor.

My DIY Wedding Decor:

Boutonnieres and bouquets:  After getting a quote on real flowers for the wedding, I was absolutely sick.  I couldn’t imagine paying so much for something that would die and be thrown away.  So, I ended up making all the boutonnieres and bouquets.  Including my own!  I bought the flowers from the Dollar Store, Dollar Tree, and Walmart.  Yes, they are fake, but I get to keep my bouquet and Mac’s bout forever and that’s what I like about it.

Ceremony decor:  For seating, we used square hay bales.  They seemed to work really good.  We (read: Mac) cut up two logs to give me my stumps for the aisle.  I saved up used spaghetti jars and borrowed some mason jars from my grandma and decorated those on the outside with burlap, lace, and twine.  Most jars had fake flowers in them and others had candles lit during the ceremony.  Although I’m not sure they were even lit, lol!

Reception decor:  I used the same kind of jars for the reception tables, our cake table, and along the edge of the front porch.  The large ‘B’ was made with Dollar Store foam board, dyed coffee filters, and a hot glue gun.  That took forever, but I was SO proud of it.  It will be hanging in my house soon!

Picture decor: I made this banner for my save the dates and engagement pictures and knew I wanted it to be hanging some where at the wedding for a photo op.  It looked perfect hanging on the chair.  The Mr. Right and Mrs. Always Right was an idea I seen on Pinterest.  I took some burlap and fabric I already had, traced the letters, and colored them in.  Guests got a good chuckle out of that one!

DIY Wedding DecorIt was such a relief after the wedding was over knowing that I didn’t spend an arm and a leg on decorations that would be junked.  Does this mean I’m frugalista or just plain ol’ cheap?!  Ha, I don’t really care!

We bought fake flowers for the centerpieces. The real flowers were my bouquet, the boutonnieres, and my bridesmaids’ bouquets. Our ceremony was outside in the garden of the venue, so there was no need to purchase additional flowers 🙂
